HISTORY OF THE ROBBINSVILLE LACROSSE ASSOCIATION
In 2001, the Robbinsville Lacrosse Association was founded by Neil Brown.
In March of 2001 the RLA started practices on its then home fields of Mercer County Park (where we would also play our home games). The RLA's first game took place on a rainy April day of that year at the Penn Valley Elementary School in Levittown, PA vs. Lower Bucks Lacrosse.
We were the ROBBINSVILLE RAIDERS back at that time and wore BLUE AND WHITE as Robbinsville High School had not yet been built, and the Ravens did not exist.
Our first RLA board included Neil Brown and John Ciccarone who served as our treasurer.
In that first season in 2001 the following were RLA coaches:
- Neil Brown
- Michael Langford
- John Bell
- Matt Regulski
- John Ciccarone
- Roc Azzarello
- Gary Witholt
The RLA has assisted in the creation of the programs in Allentown, East Windsor and Hamilton.
Players from the RLA have gone on to play at the following High School:
- New Egypt
- Norte Dame
- Northern Burlington
- Lawrenceville Prep
- Princeton Day School
In 2013, we had the first RLA player to be recruited and play D1 lacrosse at Georgetown University - Chris Pauzer. (RLA 2006-2008).
In 2005, Mike Langford took over as President of our Association. Under his tireless leadership, our program saw unprecedented growth and success.
In 2012, the RLA Changed its colors and nickname to the ROBBINSVILLE RAVENS, and adopted the same RED AND BLACK color scheme of our High School.
In 2013 Mike Langford's dedication to the program continued to be readily apparent as he continued as the program's President despite the fact that he no longer had sons in the program.
Even now when Mike could choose to walk away and take it easy, he chooses to stay an active member of the RLA board and continues to help this program as a coach and board member.
Another tireless and unsung hero of our program is Matt Regulski who is a founding member of the RLA and still a very active member of the organization to this day as a coach and board member. Matt has long served the Robbinsville community with his love for the sport of lacrosse, a passion to coach, and his ability to establish a special bond with the many players he has coached throughout the years. Matt has coached all levels of Robbinsville lacrosse players from youth to high school.
One name that is synonymous with the Robbinsville Lacrosse Association is Sherrie Johnson.
In 2001 Jan Pettas helped form the foundation of the RLA Girls Program. At the time Jan was the head coach at The Peddie School and a Robbinsville resident. Sherrie Johnson came along shortly after and was an intregal part of the foundation and growth of the program. Sherrie has remained involved with the program since her arrival here. Sherrie has coached all levels within our organization and served Girls Vice President for many years until Dan Fernandes took over the position in 2016. Sherrie has remained as a board member and continues to coach the girls of our program.
In 2014, Matthew Coyle took the reigns from Mike Langford as the President and remains in that position to this day.
There is much more to come in terms of documenting the wonderful history of the RLA. Please check back often to learn more about where we came from.
The RLA continues to make history every day...
